On February 6, 2026, Clarke Dennis Eyl, 74, with his husband at his side, departed his earthly home for his eternal heavenly home. Born October 20, 1951 in
Jacksonville, FL to Arland and Virginia Eyl.
Clarke was a man with a gentle soul, of deep faith, who spent his life ministering and caring for others.
He graduated from Southwest Baptist College in
Bolivar, MO in 1977 where he majored in Psychology and Drama. He attended Baptist Theological in Rüschlikon, Switzerland from 1979 to 1980.
His working career was primarily spent enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities and special needs. He moved to Myrtle Beach in 1995, where he was the Residential Director of Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs until the time of his retirement. He was affectionately given the name of "Daddy" Clarke by many of the residents he served.
Prior employment included a position as volunteer Coordinator for the No AIDS Task Force in
New Orleans, LA. This was during the late 1980's during the AIDS crisis. He also counseled individuals post HIV testing. He oversaw all events in which Eartha Kitt gave of her time to benefit No AIDS Task Force. He also facilitated a party to thank the volunteers that assisted with the AIDS quilt that was brought to New Orleans and on display. The quilt traveled across the nation. It was at this volunteer party he would meet his soulmate and spend the next thirty-seven years building a beautiful and well-lived life together.
In September of 2023, the couple returned to New Orleans to marry in a Wedding Chapel located in the French Quarter. They were married on the date that celebrated thirty-five years of their union. This date had added significance, as it was also Darryl's youngest son's birthdate, which is also thirty fire years since Clarke entered the lives of the two sons.

Eyl, Jr., his wife, Brenda, and former wife, Kathie Hanks Eyl; His brother Shelton Eyl and his wife, Beverly; His brother Kevin Eyl and his wife, Marlou; His brother-in-law, Brian Hardy and his wife, Becky; His brother-in-law, Brandon Hardy and his wife, Tammy; Nephews, Christopher Eyl, Daryl Stephenson, David Stephenson, Adam Ziegler, Zephry Eyl, Austin Hardy, and Logan Hardy; Nieces, Jennifer Eyl, Amanda Campbell, Briah Eyl, Dominique Eyl, Juliette Mancebo, and Lauren Cummings.
Clarke was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Eyl, father, Arland Eyl, Sr., his sister, Kandys Ziegler, his father-in-law, Charles T. Hardy, and mother-in-law, Sylvia Hardy.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
