Our beloved Lyle Kelton "Buzz" Moss, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 16th, 2024 in Draper Utah from complications of Parkinson's Disease. His legacy of love for his family, his humor and faith will be forever treasured by those who knew him.
Buzz was born October 27th, 1935 to Earl Moss and June Behunin. He was raised in the Salt Lake Valley and was the youngest of his six siblings. Fenton, Vaughn, Eldon, Velma, Devona and Loa. He spent his childhood hunting, fishing, and working hard on the family farm.
In school, he excelled at golf, basketball, softball and boxing. He graduated from South High School and then went to work at Yellowstone Park for the adventure of a lifetime.
In the Army Reserves, Buzz acquired skills to become an exceptional professional photographer and film maker. During his film making career he traveled North America on the Audubon lecture tour presenting his wildlife films to large audiences.
He married the love of his life, Karen Forbush August 1, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple, after meeting her in the SDC Sacra Dulce choir. They are the parents of seven children who love them dearly.
Buzz has always had a strong testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and His Gospel. He cherished his time working at the Draper temple with Karen. He also served as a missionary at the Bishop's Storehouse and worked at the Utah State Prison as a religious counselor.
He loved the outdoors and fishing with his brothers, nephews and his life-long friend Ray Bronson. He had many adventures white-water river rafting with his Socotawa friends who have always been like a second family to Buzz and Karen.
Buzz was always active in sports. He played basketball and softball for years on ward and county teams, and also became a certified umpire and referee. He spent many hours on basketball courts and baseball diamonds making new friends, hitting home-runs, putting on his black and white shirt and blowing his famous whistle.
Buzz had a creative side and enjoyed building things, gardening and designing beautiful fishing flies. He was an expert at fly-tying. He created a uniquely personal fly for each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He inherited the ability of storytelling from his family. He wrote and published his life history recently which will be a priceless heirloom for his posterity.
Spending time with his family was very important to Buzz and he enjoyed being with loved ones at parties, holidays, family reunions, and especially barbeques.
Before his passing, it was very important for Buzz to share his testimony of the Savior. He shared his love for all his family and his gratitude for his knowledge of eternal families.
We will miss him, but know we will be reunited again. Dad, thank you for the legacy you left for us. You will always be forever in our hearts. Our family motto is "Enjoy the journey, we will have fun". Thank you for making this journey wonderful and unforgettable.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Fenton Moss (Claire), Vaughn Moss (Virginia) and Eldon Moss (LaRue, Merle), his sister Devona Dowdle (Don), and his son, Jason Moss (stillborn).
He is survived by his wife Karen Forbush Moss. His children: Kelly (Mike), Cheryl (Todd), Becky (Travis), Casey (Darci), Jonathan (Lisa) and Diana (Jacob). His sisters: Velma (Ken) and Loa (Don, Joe).
Our family would like to thank the Corner Canyon 4th Ward for their tender love and service over many years toward Buzz and Karen. We also thank Dignity Home Health and Hospice, and Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary for their kind service to Buzz.
A viewing will be held Sunday evening, May 19th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Corner Canyon 4th Ward: 13366 South 1300 East, Draper Utah 84020.
