Lylen Terral Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E.J. Fielding Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Dec. 11, 2025.
Lylen Albrecht Terral, lovingly known as "Mitty", age 98, of New Orleans and Covington, Louisiana, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, philanthropist, community volunteer, civic leader and artist, died peacefully on December 4, 2025. Born in New Orleans/Old Algiers, Louisiana, on September 5, 1927, the sixth of eight children of her parents, Ferdinand George Albrecht and Lillian Packard Albrecht. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Terral, her daughter and son in law, Jann Terral Ferris and Grey Flowers Ferris, her son, Mark Scott Terral, her granddaughters Shelby Ferris and Katherine Terral, and her great grandson, Teddy Legidakes. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her sons, William Lyle "Buddy" Terral (Melody), David Albrecht "Brett" Terral (Lizette), and Thomas Gregory Terral (Lori). She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Mitty believed in living life to the fullest. This was exemplified by her active involvement in many civic, community and political organizations including the March of Dimes Chapter of Louisiana (Past President), Louisiana Children's Medical Center, Louisiana State Medical Auxiliary (Past President), New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Metropolitan Crime Commission of New Orleans (Board Member), Louisiana State and National Republican Party, Family Service of Greater New Orleans, Isidore Newman School Parents Association (Past President), New Orleans Art Association (Past President), and the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony.

Never one to sit still, she enthusiastically pursued many personal interests including becoming an accomplished airplane pilot, achieving her commercial pilot rating, multi-engine rating, and instrument rating. She was also a talented artist, with a particular passion for sculpture and painting. Other interests included world travel, snow skiing, scuba diving, and, at age eighty, sky diving.

Beyond all of her accomplishments and endeavors, however, she always considered her greatest achievements to be her family and her faith.

The family would like to express gratitude to Mitty's caregivers, Deb Ormsby, Kelly Vicari, Kathy Singleton, Linda Manning, Pat Harvey, Trolunda Hart, and Hazel Barney.

Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N Marigold Drive, Covington, Louisiana, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, followed by a reception at the church. Private interment will be held for the family at McDonoghville Cemetery in Gretna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Ministries at the address above.
