Ever a free spirit, Lyn Hacker passed away at Dover Manor facility on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. Her indomitable capacity to love without measure horses, dogs, cats, music and musicians will be missed by those who loved her.
She was born in Lexington, KY, on Aug. 3, 1953, to T.R. and Anna Lee Hacker. Fiercely independent, Lyn quickly took her nieces under her wing, imprinting them with carob-coated peanuts from Good Foods, Louise Erdrich novels, and avocado facials while listening to Emmylou Harris, Pat Benatar and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers albums. Lyn's career was as varied as her interests.
She started a B.A. in Communication and Journalism at University of Kentucky, took some time off to pursue interests in the horse industry, and then completed the degree in 1991. She then pivoted to finish an associate degree in respiratory therapy in 1993. She enjoyed working at different facilities such as Harrison Memorial Hospital and Dover Physical Rehab and volunteering at Red Barn Radio.
She leaves behind to mourn her a vast network of family and friends. In addition to nieces, Jamie (Brian) Horn and Tammy (Doug) Potter; her sister, Charlene (Earl) Horn; survives her as does her cherished companion, Robert Daub. The extended family and friends include but not limited to Patsy Morgan, Tony Morgan, Merle Hacker, Carl McClanahan, Randy Fuller, Cathy and Junior Sebastian, Huberta Miller, Kathy and Rose Hoskins.
The family wishes to extend appreciation to Harrison County first responders and Harrison County Memorial hospital staff for their diligent care.
There will be an informal memorial service in the spring, but donations in her honor to the Lexington Humane Society would be much appreciated.
