Lynette ("Lynne") Swindle passed away on September 12, 2025 in Brookings at the age of 73. A Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a time of story sharing starting at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.

Lynette ("Lynne") Swindle was born on June 25, 1952 in Sioux Falls, SD to Arnold and Bernice Fodness. Lynne lived near Worthing during her earliest years. At a young age, she moved to a farm near White, SD and lived there with her mother and stepfather, Bernice and Stanley Patrick. Lynne attended school in White, SD, Astoria, SD and Hendricks, MN. She participated in 4-H. Lynne graduated from Hendricks High in 1970.

As an adult, Lynne lived in Wichita, KS, Searcy, AR, and Brookings, SD. She was married to Doyle Swindle in 1982; they later divorced. When she married Doyle, she became stepmother to Doyle's four sons; Doyle Jr. ("Butch"), Kevin, and twins Jeremy and Justin. She was dedicated to her instant family, going to ball games, trips, and other activities.

Lynne was hardworking and conscientious in her employment, working at various jobs (oftentimes taking an additional part time job). Among other places, she worked at ITT Automotive in Searcy for several years. She was Employee of the Year three times at ITT, a plant that employed 240 workers. She was especially proud of her work on the brake lines for the Ford F series pickups.

Lynne bowled in leagues during her years in Kansas and Arkansas.

She also enjoyed old time country music and going to dances. Lynne attended a Marty Stuart concert. She was especially fond of Alan Jackson music. In 2003, she moved back to South Dakota after she became disabled from MS.

Lynne was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years and was a lifetime member of the Brookings VFW Auxiliary. She followed the Vikings and the Jackrabbits. Lynne enjoyed traveling to other states over the years.

Throughout her life, she collected various types of figurines and other collectibles. Each piece in her collections had a story, and she cherished them all. Lynne loved a good bargain at auctions and garage sales. She decorated her apartment with a different theme in each room. For example, the kitchen & dining room area was decorated with strawberries, a notable crop in Arkansas. Another room was decorated with lambs, based on the sheep she raised and showed for 4-H.

A friendly soul, Lynne enjoyed visiting friends and relatives in person and on Facebook. She really bonded with a number of her home care attendants over the last six years, and liked to hear about their backgrounds and interests. In addition to many friends and relatives in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Arkansas, she is survived by sisters, Linda Peters, Debby (Ted) Smyer, Darla Hicks, and Diane (Harlan) Best. She was preceded in death by her brother Verlyn Fodness, and brothers in law Jim Peters and Doyle Hicks.

Any memorials should be directed to the Brookings VFW Auxiliary, George Dokken Post 2118, 520 Main Avenue, Brookings, SD 57006.
