Lynn Ann Ahlgrim-Delzell
June 18, 1957 - January 6, 2025
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Lynn at 67 years young. Peacefully and surrounded by loved ones, she passed at the home she loved in Mount Holly. Lynn was born in Danville, IL, daughter of the late Marshall Reginald Ahlgrim and Rosanne Towne Ahlgrim. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Mark Towne Ahlgrim & Jeffrey Alan Ahlgrim.
Lynn is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Peter, her two devoted daughters, Lindsey Rose Delzell McKee (Zack) and Samantha Erin Fiolka (Morgan); her beautiful grandchildren, Colbie Layton McKee, Randi Paige Fiolka, Connor James McKee, Emmalee Lane Fiolka and Carl Walter Fiolka; her sisters, Stephanie Rose Keeler and Pam Ahlgrim-Foley (Matthew).
Always passionate about learning and education, Lynn earned her B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in School Psychology from Illinois State University in Normal, IL and her Ph.D. in Educational Research Methodology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lynn furthered her passion by becoming an Associate Professor of Research at the University of Norh Carolina at Charlotte, teaching master's and doctorate level courses on research methods and statistics.
Known to her peers and students as Dr. Lynn, she had many achievements. She was most proud of her work in co-authoring Early Literacy Skills Builder (ELSB), a research / science-backed literacy program for students with significant developmental disabilities and the Nonverbal Literacy Assessment (NVLA).
Lynn's deepest loves were her family, teaching, soccer, Judge Judy, all 47 seasons of "Survivor", puzzles, and the Chicago Cubs. She loved life as fiercely as she loved her family. Lynn was a wife, a mom, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt, a friend, an educator and so much more. Her passing will be truly felt by all who knew her.
Lynn's pursuit for equality and commitment to women's rights brought her to march in Washington DC in January 2017. But no one day could sum up Lynn's "best day ever" as every Saturday was spent with her husband, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren at her home for days of playing, laughing, cooking and enjoying her family.
A celebration of life memorial for Lynn will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Lynn with a donation to the March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.org) or to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org). Condolence message may be sent to the family by visiting www.woodlawnfuneral.org.

Lynn was a student of mine at ISU. She was special. I am glad to know that she had a good life....she deserved it. She was hard working, smart, dedicated, and fun. Thank you, Lynn. Dan Graybill

I will always remember Lynn's kindness when I started at UNC Charlotte, from mentorship on teaching research methods to writing sessions at the bagel shop and another colleague's home. Her bright-eyed smile and signature chuckle always brought me great joy. Will miss her beautiful presence.

Wonderful colleague for many years. Always enjoyed talking with her about any topic.

Lynn was one of the most impressive researchers with whom I ever worked. With all our ambitious goals, Lynn never said, "it can't be done," she just did it. She was the only one among us who received the prestigious title Fellow of AAIDD. Her work will have a lasting impact on children with disabilities. And the person she was will have a lasting impact on me.

Lynn was a pleasure to work with (UNC Charlotte). I enjoyed seeing her grandkids' pictures and hearing about the fun they had over the weekend. At Lynn's suggestion faculty and staff began having lunch together (pre-Covid) and we have her to thank for all the laughs we had together. Thinking of Lynn brings a smile to my face. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
