Lynn Preston Nicks, 79, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on December 1, 2023, in High Point. He was born on March 13, 1944, in High Point to the late Eli Nicks and Ruby Laverne Smith Nicks.
Lynn will be remembered for his loving nature and greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Judy Harris Nicks, his stepson Jerry (Nancy) Earnhardt, his daughters Sharon (Ken) Small and Tracey (Jeff) Adams, his grandchildren Mayah Small, Lauren Crudas, Blake Ballard, sisters Toni (Ed) Hoppe and Ruby (Tim) Pennington, niece Heather (Brian) Lasley, nephew Matthew Garrison, great nephews Zachary Lasley and Brett (Ashley) Garrison. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Gable Nicks.
Lynn completed high school and community college and had a successful career at Claude Gable Furniture, where he worked as the Director of the Frame Department. He was involved in both sales and manufacturing and was known for his dedication and expertise in the field.
Lynn had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was a talented singer and was particularly fond of Southern Gospel Music. He was part of a barber shop quartet and also the gospel quartet "Sounds of Faith" for many years. Lynn had a deep faith in Jesus and shared his faith through his beautiful voice in many area churches. In recent years, he attended Faith's Journey Church in Thomasville where he assisted with music. Prior to that he was a member of Green Street Baptist Church in High Point.
Lynn had many interests that brought him joy. He was an experienced bowler. He actively participated in a bowling league, achieving a perfect score of 300. Lynn was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed boating, camping, archery, and marksmanship. He spent many hours playing cards with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains and also enjoyed spending time at High Rock Lake.
He loved spending time with his cherished dog, Theo.
A memorial service to celebrate Lynn's life will be held in the High Point Chapel of Wright Funerals-Cremations located at 1720 Westchester Drive in High Point, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 10 AM. Visitation will follow the service.
Charitable donations can be made to Faith's Journey Church or Hospice of the Piedmont.
