It is with deep sadness that Lynnda Woody Fontenot, 73, of Wichita Falls and New Orleans, passed away on March 11, 2025.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th at The Church of the Good Shepherd on the corner of Burnet and 10th Street in Wichita Falls.
Lynnda is the daughter of the late Myrtle Fast Woody and Clifton Lenore Woody. She was born on March 30, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, while her father was stationed at Lackland AFB. She spent her young childhood in Fukuoka, Japan, and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, when she was six. Lynnda was married on June 9, 1972, at Saint Patricks Church in New Orleans to the love of her life, James Nolan Fontenot, Jr.
Lynnda took care of all the people and animals around her. She loved word games, bridge and jigsaw puzzles. She was an ace racquetball player, avid reader and lover of wine. She loved bonding with her daughters in Sonoma, Portland, Key West and Australia, to name a few places. Her pets were doted upon. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends during special holidays.
Professionally, Lynnda completed her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene at Loyola University of New Orleans. She practiced at the Pentagon briefly and the New Orleans area. Afterwards, she was a bookkeeper and manager for N.O. Wine Merchant/Distributor. When her daughters were born, she dedicated herself to raising them, while continuing to volunteer for a number of Wichita Falls charities.
Lynnda is survived by her husband of 58 years, James N. Fontenot, Jr.; and her daughters, Cherie E. Fontenot and Debra A. Fontenot. They live with their husbands, Clayton G. Putnam of Seattle and Louis Suddarth Calhoun of Brooklyn, respectively. She is also survived by her brother Richard Woody of Houston and his family, Sue, Sarah, Lacey and Mathew and their children, as well as her niece, Jordan Woody and nephew, Clint Woody. Along with her parents, Lynnda was also preceded in death by her brother, Clifton L. Woody, Jr.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be sent to Faith Mission, First Step or Hospice of Wichita Falls.

How do you say goodbye to a very dear friend??

Lynnda was one of the best friends I have ever had, and the "times" together were so fantastic. We went places (where I was asked more than once) if I was her mother and I just stood on my tiptoes and said "yes" .

I was able to watch the girls grow up and follow all their great things that make them the wonderful young women they -and their husbands--have grown and matured into.

If I ever needed anything, all I had to do was call and Lynnda was right there.

There is not enough room to write everything wonderful about Lynnda.

I love you and will be seeing you "on the other side"

Heaven gained a very special Angel. Lynda was very special to me. Her beautiful smile lit up the room and she was the most caring and sweetest lady to me. She will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Jim and family and her many friends.
