Reverend Lyonel Lewis Sr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on February 26, 2026 at the age of 80. He was born in Picayune, Mississippi, on July 15, 1945, to Joe L. and Daisy Lewis. He was a graduate of the Scotlandville Senior High School class of 1963.

He later enlisted into the U.S. Air force and was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base as a Dietary Therapy Supervisor. He served his country proudly from 1964 to 1984. He was decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. While serving his country, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After twenty years of honorable service, he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

Following his military career, Rev. Lewis continued to serve his community as an Ordained Minister. He hosted Bible studies and spread the gospel at several churches, most recently at Grace Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Bridget M. Lewis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marion; son, Lyonel II; sisters, Marian and Flora; grandsons, Reginald (Yesteena), Brandon, Lyonel III (Ashley), and Joshua; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
