Obituary
Dr. M. Gilbert Eberhart, 88, passed away on June 14, 2023, in Memorial Hospital. Dr. Eberhart was an adored husband, father, grandfather. He was born in Mishawaka on September 14, 1934, to Mahlon Gilbert and Grace Eberhart. He graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1959, followed by an oral surgery residency at Long Hospital in Indianapolis. He began his practice in Mishawaka in 1960. Dr. Eberhart was a past President of the Mishawaka, St Joseph County, and North Central Dental Societies, and he served on the Indiana State Board of Dentistry for nine years. Dr. Eberhart cared greatly for his hometown of Mishawaka. He served on numerous civic committees including the Mishawaka Housing Authority and the Mishawaka Redevelopment Department for over 25 years. Dr. Eberhart also provided dental care to children for the Children's Dispensary of St. Joseph County for 35 years. Governor Bowen honored Dr. Eberhart with the Sagamore of the Wabash for his service to the citizens of Indiana.
Dr. Eberhart joins his loving wife, Barbara Jo, in his passing. He is survived by his children, Dr. Brian and wife Lisa, Kathryn Payne, and Laurel and husband, John Coppens, and grandchildren, Alayna Koop, Caroline Eberhart, David Coppens, Hanna Coppens and Carson Payne.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm-4 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A funeral service will begin at 4 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Alexa Kvande officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to give special thanks to the medical staff of Memorial Hospital and Senior 1 Care.
