Mr. M. C. Hix, a southern gentleman of the Plunketts Creek Community, quietly departed his earthly life at the age of 88 and was pronounced deceased at the Highpoint Health- Riverview @ Ascension Saint Thomas Emergency Room at 1:24 a.m. Friday morning January 2, 2026. The family had summoned assistance from Smith Couty E-911 at 11:41 p.m. Thursday evening.
Feddie Clayton and Stan Stevenson will officiate at the 3 p.m. Monday afternoon January 5th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Dawson Cemetery on the M.C. Hix Family Farm on Carr Hollow Lane in the Plunketts Creek Community.
The Hix family will receive friends only on Monday January 5th from 10 a.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral services at Sanderson in Carthage.
Born Marvin Claude Hix, lovingly known as M. C. by all who knew him, he was one of two children of the late Marvin Hix who died November 9, 1990 at the age of 84 and Georgie Franklin Highers Hix who died November 18, 1992 at the age of 78.
His sister Louise Hix Collins preceded him in death at the age of 61 on December 17, 2003.
Mr. Hix was a member of the 1955 graduating class at Smith County High School where he majored in agriculture, served as vice-president of his F.F.A. class his freshman year, was a recipient of the State Farmer Degree his junior year, attended the State F.F.A. convention his first three years, played F.F.A. basketball the junior and senior year, was in the Junior play cast and the Latin Club his freshman year. His freshman year he was also in the Pep Club and sophomore year was a member of the record club.
In Nashville on July 4, 1976, he was united in marriage to Nashville native, the former Sue Alsup.
Mr. Hix was a member of the Army National Guard for seven years.
A farmer at heart, he was service manager at the former Melrose Volkswagen in Nashville and ended his employment career at Moss Service and Supply as supply clerk in 2007 at the age of 70 following thirty-five years of loyal and courteous service to the Moss employees and customers.
Mr. Hix was a faithful member of the Rome Church of Christ and was able to attend services there Sunday December 28th.
Nothing was more important to him than his earthly family and his church family.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sue are the five children, Marty Hix and wife Becky, Maria Anderson and husband Steve all of the Plunketts Creek Community, Melissa Gross of Carthage, Chris Hix and wife Shawn of the Plunketts Creek Community, Steve Alsup and wife Tammy of Pulaski; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
The Hix family has requested memorials to the Rome Church of Christ.
