M. Joseph DeMATTEO

DeMATTEO, M. Joseph "Marty" Age 83, of Sarasota, FL, born in Boston, MA, on April 1, 1942, to Martin and Rose (Tomasello) DeMatteo, died unexpectedly in his sleep, on September 16, 2025. Marty graduated from St. Sebastian's High School, in 1959, and Wentworth Institute of Technology, in 1963. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1963 through 1970. Early in his career, Marty worked for M. DeMatteo Construction Company, founded by his grandfather, a heavy and highway construction company that built miles of interstate highways and bridges. During his time in the construction business, he became the first Chairman of the Board of the Construction Industries of Massachusetts. Later, he went on to form DeMatteo Management, Inc. and DeMatteo Properties, Inc., both still in business today. In 1976, he joined the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. He served in many capacities, most notably, as Captain Commander in 1988-1989. Marty was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Duchie (DeMatteo) and Phillip Murphy of Hingham; and his brother-in-law Richard Taylor of Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his children, Anthony DeMatteo of Weymouth, Shannon DeMatteo of Boston, and Erin DiMartino of Marshfield; his grandson Jackson DiMartino of Marshfield; and his sister Claire (DeMatteo) Taylor of Baltimore, MD. He will be greatly missed by many. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the Visiting Hours on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, from 4-7 PM, in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH, at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So.
