Mabel L. Bennett, age 98 of Harriettsville, OH passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Waterview Pointe Nursing Home in Marietta, OH, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 20, 1927 in Harriettsville the daughter of the late James E. and Isabelle Ayers Walker.
She graduated from the Elk Local High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to Canton, OH and attended post graduate school, then worked at the Union Manufacturing Company and Peerless Pump as an office clerk. After World War II she met and later married Don Bennett (formerly of Cambridge) on January 25, 1947. In 1954 she moved back to Harriettsville where they had purchased the former McVey General Store and operated it for 7 years. She later went to work for GMN Tri-County Community Action Agency in Caldwell and served as a Program Director of Senior Programs. She retired in 1989 after 20 years of service.
Mabel has been a member of the Road Fork Baptist Church most of her life except when living in Canton and was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple. She was a Sunday School teacher and served in the offices of secretary and treasurer for several years at Road Fork. Mabel was currently a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafting, and bowling.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter Linda (Don) Warner; two sisters Mae Morrison and Esther Brozovic; two brothers Earl Walker and Ronald Walker;
Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters Sherry Shively (and friend Chuck Meeks) of Marietta, OH, Judy (Bob) Parks of Caldwell, OH, and Dawn (Dave) Michael of Marietta, OH. She has five grandchildren Julie (Keith) Stewart, Lori (Mike) Dietsch, Chris (Melissa) Michael, Zachary (Lisa) Michael, and Stephanie Wells; nine great-grandchildren Taylor (Andy) Erb, Tyler (Jessica) Haught, Ethan and Summer Wells, Mason, Brielle, and Brayden Michael, and McKinlee and Ashton (Dyrk) Michael; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Jim Walker of Marietta, OH. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Bennett family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Waterview Pointe and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mabel.
The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Twin Rivers Baptist Church, 110 DAV Road, Whipple, Ohio 45788. A Funeral Service will conclude visitation Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating. Burial will follow in the Road Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Don. Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Mabel’s Honor to the Twin Rivers Baptist Church, 110 D A V Road, Whipple, Ohio 45788.
