Mabel Marie Ellis

Mabel Marie Harvey Ellis, beloved mother, 95, of Katy, Texas passed away on February 25, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Gettysburg, South Dakota on October 24, 1930, to Thomas Brown Harvey and Ragna Hilda Rud, where she grew up farming on the plains of Potter County. She was the second of five children; three girls and two boys. She married Dorsey Lee Ellis in Gettysburg, South Dakota on December 23, 1948. Making their home in Missouri, near Dorsey's family. They were blessed with eight children, six sons and two daughters. Moving to Katy, Texas in the 1979 to join their oldest daughter and raise the two youngest sons.

Mabel was gentle, polite, caring, protective and nonjudgemental. She loved taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A master seamtress and quilter, she made quilts for her entire family and many friends. As her children and grandchildren married, she made each a quilt with their wedding dates and when a new baby arrived in the family, she always made them a quilt, a pillow and other crib accessories. She enjoyed family get-togethers and her homemade apple pie was always requested and loved; it was her signature dessert. Family get-togethers included playing Spinners Dominos which she always enjoyed whether winning or losing. When not sewing or cooking she was an avid reader and crossword puzzler. She could be found at the local bookstores with her daughters or daughter-in-law followed by lunch at one of her favorite eateries.

Proceeded in death by her husband Dorsey Ellis, two sons Thomas D and Ronald E., granddaughter Mallory Gardner, two sisters and one brother. She is survived by six of her children and their families: Dorsey E. Ellis & Deb, James Ellis & Jackie, Darice Gardner & Pat, Diane Scott & Michael W., Gary Ellis & Theresa, and Greg Ellis & Margaret Richards; fourteen grandchildren: Stacey Ellis, Jason Ellis, Ron Ellis, Janie Fischer, James Ellis, Jennifer Hall, Joshua Ellis, Mendy Ferrara-Langlois, Meredith Strickline, M. Clayton Scott, Miles Scott, Megan Ellis, Lacy Corallo, and Peyton Ellis; 24 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home 1344 Grand Parkway S, Katy, Texas 77494 on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11am.

Mabel will be laid to rest at Antioch Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
