Wichmann Funeral Home - Downtown AppletonMabel Ida Lehmann, age 91, passed away on March 2, 2025, at AdavaCare Assisted Living in Fox Crossing.
Mabel had just celebrated her 91st birthday with her family on February 21. She was born on that day in 1935 in Colome, SD to Paul and Kathrine (Schamber) Kahler. She grew up on a farm in Colome and was one of 15 children. Mabel married Harold Lehmann in 1952, and they had four children. She graduated from Winner High School in 1953. Mabel cared for children in her home, then for Zwicker’s Knitting Mill and finally at the Hampton Inn. She was active and working into her 70’s.
Throughout her life, Mabel enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing. She was a great cook. Mabel had an “almost famous” recipe for chocolate chip cookies-and those treats will be supremely missed by all. She was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, and enjoyed attending services and listening to the choir.
Mabel is survived by her sons: Douglas Lehmann, Dennis (Pam) Lehmann; daughters: Patricia (Daniel) Schroeder, Pamela (Joe) Hoffmann; grandchildren: Dominic (Kristin) Lehmann, Dawn (Ronnie) Wright, Becky (Larry) Lefeber, Jude Hoffmann, Stephanie Hoffmann, Amanda (Troy) Marsicek, Adam Lehmann, Josh Lehmann, Kyle (Heidi) Schroeder, Keith (Krystal) Schroeder; and 17 great grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law Debbie Lehmann and brothers and sisters: Fred (Marie) Kahler, Rudy (Katherine) Kahler, John (Irene) Kahler, Leonard (Dorothy) Kahler, Rose (Mervin) Kutabue, Lydia (Bill) Story, Lucille (Clarence) Fenner, Dorothy (Lyle) Snyder, Adeline (Edwin) Bender, Martha (Leon) Bender, and Erna (Darrell) Kinzer, and 3 children who died in childhood.
Special thanks to all the AdavaCare staff especially Linda, Ari, Jordyn, Madison, Maddie, Emma, Mo and Michelle. The family is also grateful to Hospice staff: Jamie, Emily, Sam, Ann and Chaplain Leary.
A memorial service will take place on Friday March 20, 2026, at 11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E Glendale Ave, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 9:00am until the service begins. Mabel will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park.
