In Loving Memory of Mabel Helene Harris Wishart
March 24, 1946 May 4, 2025
Mabel Helene Harris Wishart, affectionately known as "May," "Grammy," "Gram," or Aunty Mabel, peacefully departed on May 4, 2025, at the age of 79. Her life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Born in 1946 in Vavau, Tonga, to Anna and Percy Harris, Mabel grew up in a home filled with love and strength. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her sisters Jane and Nellie, her brother William, and her loving husband George Wishart.
With George, Mabel built a beautiful life that lasted 58 years. On June 5, 1965, they began their family in New Zealand, where they had daughters Alisha and Claudine. They then moved to Oahu, Hawaii, to attend Church College of Hawaii, now known as BYU Hawaii. They would add their son George Jr. and daughter Juliann in the following years. In 1978, George and Mabel moved to Newbury Park, California, where they would raise their family.
Mabels life was rooted in love, service, and faith. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her kindness touched the lives of many, especially those in her church community, as reflected in the many heartfelt tributes from fellow members. She was known for her affectionate jokes and the many hours she dedicated to activities like Christmas Parties, the annual Chomp n Stomp, weddings, and so much more. She adored her community and spent time working towards establishing the Newbury Park YMCA. There, she made dear friends through her water aerobics class. Mabel was known for her love of others and great sense of humor.
Grammy May's love for her family was unparalleled. She adored decorating, growing, and arranging flowers and was renowned for her delectable chocolate cake. She enjoyed her British TV and her Red Hat Society, local theater, and, above all, cherished spending time with her family. Her love for her family was the driving force behind her actions, making her the heart of any home she entered, the center of any party, and a caregiver who gave all of herself to those she loved.
She is survived by her four children: Alisha, Claudine, George (Sui), and Juliann (Shane); eleven grandchildren: La, Hannah (Bryan), Hunter, Tianna (Vili), Alexis, Shaylee (Mason), Cade, Tyler, Houston, Ayla, and Barrett; and her great-grandsons: Harris, Owen, and Lucas. Mabel's legacy is one of deep compassion, strength, and endless love.
