Mabelene Nesbitt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paradise Memorial Funeral Home - Miami on Dec. 17, 2025.
Mabelene Nesbitt was born March 13, 1938, in Irwinton, GA, to parents, the late Eva and Leroy Nesbitt. She was born the fourth child of thirteen. Mabelene received her education in the Wilkerson County School system. She received her high school diploma in 1959, graduating from Calhoun Consolidated High School in Irwinton, Georgia.

In 1960, Mabelene moved to Naranja, Florida in search of a better life. She worked on the farms and in the fields harvesting beans, peas, limes, tomatoes, and other crops until her dream came along. The job that she said God sent to her. On June 21, 1974, she became employed by Miami-Dade County with the Community Action Agency (CAA). She was the Site Manager for the Meals for the Elderly Program. Her role as site manager allowed her to fulfill her passion for helping the elderly, which included planning and taking them on trips, and creating various ways for them to remain active in the community. She continued in this role until her retirement on March 30, 2001. Not only did she love assisting the elderly, but she also had a great passion for Christ as well. Mabelene joined First St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Naranja, FL where she served diligently. She sang in the choir, worked on the bereavement committee, helped with the women's ministry, and eventually became a mother of the church.

Mabelene loved to fish and help others. She would pile as many of the neighborhood kids in her car as possible to take them fishing along with her kids. Mabelene also organized the 4H Club in Modello where she taught young ladies how to sew along with other life skills. She would take time out of her busy schedule to take people to doctors' appointments, not even accepting a penny for gas. A simple thank you was sufficient.

Family was the most important thing in her life. She cherished her kids, grandkids, sisters, and brothers. Several loved ones preceded her in death: Frankie Knight, Roy Lester Nesbitt, Robert Nesbitt, James Nesbitt, Evelyn Nesbitt, Shirley Nesbitt, Hardie Nesbitt, Charlie Nesbitt, daughter-in-law Felisha Fountain, and her beloved daughter Cynthia Fountain Wyatt. She is survived by her son Avis (Lynette) Nesbitt of Clinton, Maryland; daughter, Linda Fountain, and son Kenny Fountain; sisters: Barbara McClendon of Atlanta, GA, Hazelene Smith of Dublin, GA; brothers: Richard (Diane) Nesbitt of Dublin, GA, Albert (Karen) Nesbitt of Irwinton, GA. She also leaves to mourn grandkids, great-grandkids and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.
