Mack Lewis Hooe Jr., affectionately known as "Boss," passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on January 30, 1948, in Jefferson County, WV, he was the beloved son of late Mack Lewis Hooe Sr. and Margaret Mae Nicewarner-Hooe.
Boss grew up in Millville, WV. and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1966. He had a passion for music and sports, playing the drums in the school band, competing on the football and baseball teams, and was also a member of the Varsity Club. After high school, he traded in his varsity jersey for his Army greens, where he proudly served during the Korean conflict, completing his service in 1969 with an honorable discharge.
After his time with the US Army, Boss built a life full of love and hard work with the B&O railroad, sharing his father's passion for trains. After retiring from the railroad he went on to make a lasting impact on his community with the small businesses that he owned. Boss was known for his establishments: Boss's Seafood Restaurant & Longe and Connie McKenzie's Night Club, but he was best known for his gaming establishment Boss's #2 in Charlestown WV. His family will continue to operate Boss's #2 Gaming in his memory, honoring the legacy he built.
Boss was the very definition of a lovable curmudgeon. His gruff exterior was only a facade for his big heart and lovable nature, best brought out by his grandchildren. He adored his patrons and his employees and loved to cook for all of them. He never lost his passion for creating new recipes and even in his last days, was perfecting his recipes while relaxing in his recliner.
Boss had a deep love for the New York Yankees and his granddog "Sersha", who held a special place in his heart. It was well known that Boss would send care packages to Sersha, but no one else.
Boss is survived by his loving daughter, Constance Megan Hooe-Kern, and his cherished granddaughters, Kadence Olivia Blaine and Maren C. Kern. He is predeceased by his daughter, Sara McKenzie Hooe.
Boss touched many hearts with his larger-than-life presence, and his legacy will live on in the countless memories he created with his friends, family, loyal patrons and his employees.
A service will be held to celebrate Boss's life on October 23rd, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00PM at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, located at 310 Fairfax Blvd, Ranson, WV 25438.

for some uncanny reason, I was thinking about "Boss" Hooe just this morning. My sister-in-law Nancy (Bush) Pope texted me Boss had passed. Condolences to the Family and Friends of BOSS Mack Hooe,
