TOWNSVILLE- Macon Norman Twisdale, 93, of Hwy 39 N, died Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home. Born June 30, 1930 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Cephas Lee Twisdale, Sr. and Myrtle Norwood Twisdale. Mr. Twisdale graduated from Townsville School in 1948 and in October of that year, entered the Army Air Corp which later became the US Air Force in 1950. His stateside assignments were Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, and Texas. His overseas assignments were France, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. His squadron was in air-to-air missiles with the Air Defense Command. He retired in October of 1969 as a Chief Master Sargent. After enjoying three years of retirement and building his family home in Townsville, he went to work for the USDA-AMS. He retired from the USDA-AMS in June of 1994. Mr. Twisdale came from a long line of family that served our country. His father served in France during WWI. His grandfather, George W. Twisdale, served in the Civil War. His brother Cephas served in the Navy in WWII and Norwood Dixon served in the Marines in WWII. Mr. Twisdale was also a member in good standing in Belton-Grandview No. 450 AF & AM Masons as well as a member of the Townville Lions Club. Mr. Twisdale was the oldest living member of Tabernacle Methodist Church of Townsville where he sang in the choir and served in many capacities.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. by Rev. Tommy Privette at Tabernacle Methodist Church of Townsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived his wife, Bettye Evers Twisdale of the home; three daughters, Debra Smiley and husband, Robert of Oxford, Nancy O'Geary and husband, Bubba of Henderson, Karen Crews and husband, Sam of Oxford; a son, Lee Twisdale and wife, Kim of Townsville; two sisters, Doris Richardson of Townsville and Linda Gill and husband, Ricky of Cokesbury; seven grandchildren, Brooke Smiley, Mary Alanna O'Geary, Nathan Crews, Sarah Crews and fiancé, Mark, Kelly Twisdale, Laura Breese and Megan Woodlief and husband, Graham; four great-grandchildren, Rowan Smiley, Layla Bell, Gracie Breese and Brodie Lee Woodlief; and many cousins, nieces and nephews who he has remained close to throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Derrick Ryan Blackmon and Craig Alan Smiley; a sister, Annie Mae Abbott; and three brothers, Cephas Lee Twisdale, Jr., Norwood Dixon Twisdale and Jimmy Twisdale.
Members of the United States Air Force Honor Guard will serve as active pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Twisdale, Shirley Karpf, Dick Twisdale, Pete Richardson, Perry Twisdale, Paul Gill, and John Clark.
The family will receive friends following the service on Friday in the fellowship hall of Tabernacle Methodist Church of Townsville.
