Madeline Elizabeth “Beth” Casey Baggett was called home to the Lord on September 26, 2025. A native of DeFuniak Springs, Beth was born at Lakeside Hospital on January 25, 1955. After graduating from Walton High School, Beth earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntingdon College, double majoring in History and Speech, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Speech from Florida State University.

In 1982, Beth married Maj. William T. Baggett. As an Army wife, she made her home in Chicago, IL, Ft. Meade, MD, and Lorton, VA before settling in Fredericksburg, VA. Beth worked at the US Department of Education for 32 years, managing programs for Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Southeastern Magnet Schools. Beth advanced to the upper echelon of the Department’s administration and was widely regarded as an expert on the written word. In addition, Beth was an active member and officer of the Spotsylvania, VA Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Beth was a member of First Methodist Church before being confirmed in St. Agatha’s Episcopal Church in 1971. Later in life, she became a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Beth led a very active church life, no matter where she lived. Upon retirement in 2019, Beth moved to Tallahassee to be near her family and promptly joined Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church, the Tallahassee Garden Club, and the Stitch Club. Nothing mattered more to Beth than her faith and family, which was evident in her thought, word, and deed. Beth, an educator at heart, used her passion for learning to help countless others across the country and the globe. In fact, Beth considered the pursuit of education a continuing effort, which she demonstrated by learning Latin in her 60s to keep her brain limber.

Beth was preceded in death by her father and mother, W. Lloyd Casey and Mattie Louise Booth Inlow Casey, her husband and the love of her life, Major William Thomas Baggett, and her sister, Amanda Louise Inlow Cotton. Survivors include her son, Jonathan Thomas Baggett; sister and brother-in-law, Susan Inlow Bjorklund and M. A., nieces, Louise Peters (Bo) and Amanda Stanfield Owens, nephews, Anders and Michel Bjorklund (Rachael), Sammy (Brandy) and Billy Cotton, Lloyd (Ashleigh) and Cole Skipper (Trisha), and several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Agatha’s Episcopal Church in DeFuniak Springs, on Wednesday, October 8, at 11:00, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00, with Bishop Steven Miller officiating.

Flowers are welcome, or donations in Beth’s memory can be made to St. Agatha’s Organ Fund or the charity of your choice.
