Madeline Virginia Paldo, nee Campione, age 102 of River Grove found eternal peace in her home on November 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Beloved wife of the late Pat Paldo; Loving mother of Joe and John (JoAnn) Paldo; Adoring grandma to Jenna (Nathan) Foltz and Alyssa (Dalton) Landman; Proud great grandmother of Krista; Fond sister, aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many cherished extended family members and good friends. Preceded in death by her parents John and Frances Campione (nee Mitchell) and her 6 siblings.
Born on December 6, 1922, in Owosso, Michigan, Madeline lived a life defined by hard work, adventure and spunk. Her eye for style and zest for life was evident from an early age. So was her sense of humor and contagious laugh. She carried those important qualities into every chapter of her healthy, happy and beautiful life as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
The youngest of 7 siblings, she moved to Chicago at the age of 18 looking for work. She took a job at a factory sewing camouflage nets for the troops during World War II.
Ever the "party doll", Madeline frequented many dance halls where she eventually crossed paths with her beloved Pat. She married the love of her life in April of 1947 and together they welcomed two sons, Joe and John, who were Madeline's greatest joys in this life.
Madeline and her husband opened a business together in 1952, Paldo Sign and Display, which remains in business today in its present location in River Grove. Madeline worked in the office and answered the phones – a career she enjoyed until the age of 99 and credited as one of the secrets to her exceptional longevity.
Madeline relished summers up at the family summer home on Crooked Lake and enjoyed many all-night games of pinochle with the neighborhood girls who became family. She traveled extensively and was blessed to see so much of this beautiful world with Pat before his passing in 1991.
She had many cherished friendships – especially with the six other couples she and Pat would regularly get together with for dinner and card games, coined "Club 14". Later in life, she enjoyed her Sunday morning laughs with friends over coffee at Dunkin Donuts.
Madeline was an adoring grandma – affectionately known as "Coo Coo Grandma" – never missing a school function, dance recital or chance to visit her two granddaughters, Jenna and Alyssa. She was overjoyed to see both girls get married and meet her first great grandchild, Krista.
Madeline's personality could light up any room, and she took pride in dressing to the nines – never leaving the house without her hair, makeup and nails impeccably done – jewelry, fur coat and high heels on.
Madeline lived an extraordinary life and leaves those who had the privilege of knowing her with endless cherished memories.
No doubt there's a little less sparkle in the world without Madeline in it. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of Madeline's life will be held on Thursday, November 6th from 4 to 8 P.M. at Salerno Galewood Chapels. Funeral mass on Friday, November 7th at 10 A.M. at St. Cyprian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
