MAE AUSTIN Obituary
Mae Francis Austin was born to the late Theodore Austin, Sr. and Mary Greene Austin in Sumner, Mississippi on March 15, 1933.
At a young age, Mae Francis and her family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. She completed her primary and secondary education in the Indianapolis Public School System.
Mae Francis accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young woman and joined Union Baptist Church. Later in life she joined Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Charles Harris and her current pastor, Rev. Nello Holman.
Mae worked as a cook in many restaurants for years. She then went on to work as a Nursing Assistant at Hooverwood Nursing Home for eight years. Small in size, but mighty, there was never a job that she could not conquer. Mae worked hard to raise her children.
Mae loved to shop, cook and watch movies. Most importantly, she loved God and spending time with her family. Mae was the matriarch of the Austin Family. She was blessed to see four generations. She had eight children of her own and but was also a second mom to her younger siblings after losing their mother at a young age. She was affectionately known as "Momma", "Moms", "Sistah", and "Grandma" by those who loved her. She exuded love and was the calm in every storm. She was the glue who held her family together. Mae was a woman of grace, loved to laugh, always had a positive spirit, sweet, kind, and she loved people. Mae was the epitome of a good mother, and her children honored her. She loved her family and would always have an ear to listen no matter what was going on.
Mae Francis Austin received her wings and departed this earthly life peacefully, on October 12, 2024 at the age of ninety-one years, six months, and twenty-seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mary Austin; her grandparents, Don and Lottie Green; her sons, Eddie Austin and Darrell Austin; her brother, Ronald Austin, and her grandson, Larry Wood, III.
Mae Francis leaves to cherish her memories her children, Bernadine Galloway (Norman), Shirley Turner (Ernest), Vera Williams, Michael Austin (Dawn), Andre Austin, and Angela Austin; daughter-in-love, Yolanda Austin; goddaughter, Betty Allen; sister, Tommie Brooks, brothers, Theodore Roosevelt Austin, Jr., Danny Austin, and Donald Austin; twenty-five grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
