Mae Dell Mathis has peacefully gone to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026, at the age of 94.
Mae was born on April 3, 1931, in Quitman, Texas, to Lucille McKellar and William B. Clark. She graduated valedictorian from Emmett J. High School in 1949, and continued on to earn an Associate's in General Education in 2000. She worked for over 27 years at Cousins Cleaners in Fort Worth and served as a substitute teacher as well.
Mae began attending Stranger's Rest Baptist Church, where she met her future husband, Lafredrick Mathis. They married on December 22, 1950, and raised two beautiful children together. Mae was a woman of deep faith who believed in loving others and trusting God's guidance. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life reflected endurance, integrity, and unconditional love. She will be cherished forever and deeply missed.
Mae is greeted in Heaven by her parents, Lucille McKellar and William B. Clark; her son, Steve Mathis; her sister, Mavis McBeth, and her brother, Robert Davis.
Those left to cherish Mae's memory are her loving husband of over 75 years, Lafredrick Mathis; her daughter, Sylvia McCray; her sister, Jean McCruiston; her grandchildren, Steven Collins (Kennisha), Ursula Hawthorne (James), Randal McCray, LaKeisha Johnson, and Corey Mitchell; her great-grandchildren, Kendall Hawthorne, Kelsey Hawthorne, Tamorah Hawthorne, and Brian Hawthorne; her special grandniece, Ashley Scott, along with many other loving family members and friends.
