Mae Peppel lived and died. This was the obituary she wanted, but her family felt differently.
Mae was born in Heimdal, North Dakota on May 6, 1932. She passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at Elim Rehab in Fargo ND. Mae lived a happy healthy life, she was the best! Her beautiful smile and laughter brought joy to many.
Mae graduated high school in Fessenden ND in 1950. Mae came to Fargo in 1950, via train where she and a friend were each given $100 from their parents to find a place to live. She found employment at NDSU and then International Harvester.
Mae and Donald Peppel were married on October 16, 1954. They had two children Susan and Jan and were married just short of 60 years. After having her first child Mae was a homemaker/stay-at-home Mom - which is the hardest job ever! She eventually took a part time job as the financial secretary at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. She worked there for 25 years. Church activities were where Mae spent her social time and she loved it. Don used to say she was at church enough for all of us - he was kidding of course.
Mae's other passion was playing cards with family and friends, and she was very good at it. She was a member of a card club for many years.
She was known for her tacos - everyone loved them! Friends and family still talk about them to this day!
Mae and Don spent 20 some years in Arizona in the winters and loved it. They made such great friends and enjoyed their time there with family and friends.
We will miss her love, smiles, laughter, wittiness and feistiness for sure! When she and her sisters would get together their laughter was infectious!
Mae is survived by her daughters Susan Schmuhl, Jan Schwartz (Bill Olson), granddaughters Lacy (Derek Halvorson, Alyssa Montgomery, Megan (Jeremy) Davis, Samantha Dick, grandson Brady (Mara) Schwartz, 9 great grandchildren, sisters Jeanette (Jon) Meyers, Carol Jensen, Judy James, sister-in-law Linda Georgeson and Donna Peppel, brother-in-laws Dale Peppel and William Peppel, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Ames and Hilda Georgeson, husband Donald, mother-in-law Grace Peppel, sister-in-law Beverly Peppel, sisters and brothers-in-law Sybil and Don Johnson, Arlene and Glenn Rudel, Donna and Charles Brown, Arden Georgeson, Richard Jensen, Nyle James, nephew Michael Brown, sons-in-law Roger Dick, and Darold Schmuhl.
Special thanks to Bethany Homes Assisted Living on 42nd where she lived for the last 2 1/2 years, and Elim Rehab and Essentia Hospital for the care they provided her in her last two months.
Memorials can be made to Faith Journey Lutheran Church, West Fargo, North Dakota "Memorial for Mae Peppel to the stained glass fund".
