Magdalene Beatrice Hornung, 96, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Born on September 1, 1928, in Butler County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius W. Coy and Lillie M. Coy. Miss Hornung lived a long and faithful life, one filled with devotion to her Lord and Savior. From her earliest years until her final day, Magdalene's life was centered on her deep faith, prayer, and trust in God's promises. She was a living testimony of grace, love, and unwavering belief.
She retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an accounting clerk, where she was respected for her intelligence, diligence, and integrity. Beyond her career, Magdalene's greatest joy was her family, whom she loved dearly. She poured wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love into their lives, always pointing them toward faith in God.
Magdalene leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Valerie Ward (Marshall) and Rebecca Nitti; her grandchildren, Jason Ward, Andrew Ward, Don Nitti, Carissa Nitti-Smith, and Donald J. Nitti, Jr.; along with six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of other beloved family members, with a special closeness to her treasured nieces and nephews, who held a dear place in her heart.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Wesley Manor. The love, care, and comfort given by every member of the staff brought the family immense peace and reassurance during Magdalene's final days.
Cremation services will be entrusted to Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home, with private interment to be held at a later date.
Though she has left this earthly home, Magdalene's faith-filled life leaves behind a shining legacy of devotion to the Lord, love for her family, and steadfast hope in eternal life.
"Her faith was her compass, her prayers her constant, and her love for the Lord her everlasting gift to all who knew her."
