BURNSVILLE – Maggie Riddle Atkins, age 98, of Burnsville and formerly of Asheville went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Maggie was born on December 10, 1927, in Yancey County and lived in Buncombe County most of her life. She worked for many years at Connie Fashions and Industries for the Blind. Among those jobs she also worked alongside her late husband Jack delivering papers for the Asheville Citizen-Times. Maggie loved flowers and was a big vegetable gardener. She was an outdoors person, loved nature and enjoyed picnics on the parkway. She stayed busy helping out neighbors because she was a very caring person. Maggie was a member of West Burnsville Church of God. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Rose L. Blankenship Riddle and wife of the late Jack Atkins of 74 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Winton Riddle and George Riddle; and sister, Jessie Riddle Dotson.
Surviving is her son, Wayne Atkins and wife Lisa; sister, Nell Masters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Randall Phillips and Rev. Ronald Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts St., Weaverville.
The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude toward Compassionate Care of Yancey County for all of their help and loving care with Maggie.
