Dr. Mahendra R. Modi, 86, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born on February 6, 1939, in Godhra, Gujarat, India, to Kamla Parikh and Ratilal Modi, Mahendra lived a remarkable life defined by service, knowledge, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved.
For 58 beautiful years, Mahendra shared life's journey with his beloved wife, Smita. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring values. He and Smita were blessed with two children who brought immense joy to their lives- daughter Namita (Chandra) Patel of New York, NY, and son Viral (Ritu) of Hillsborough, NJ. Nothing made him prouder than watching his four beloved grandchildren-Soham, Sahil, Arya, and Esha-grow and thrive.
A self-made man, Mahendra's curiosity, determination, and love for learning shaped him from an early age. He excelled in medical school, graduating with distinction, and went on to complete his residency and fellowship in radiology. His passion for medicine, his commitment to his patients and his compassionate personality, Mahendra along with his family made a courageous move to the United States in 1970 to pursue his lifelong career in medicine as a radiologist.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mahendra was a man of warmth, optimism, and zest for life. He was deeply social, forming lasting friendships wherever he went. He loved the arts, fine music, and exploring the world-treasuring trips to places like Japan, Italy, and Australia, where he delighted in immersing himself in new cultures. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his generosity and kindness.
Above all, Mahendra was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, an adoring grandfather, and a trusted friend. His life was one of purpose, love, and deep connection. He touched countless lives with his intellect, integrity, and compassion, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He will be dearly missed, but the legacy of his love, wisdom, and kindness will continue to guide and inspire us all.

Known to me as Fua, he was like a super kind James Bond. Fua always had the coolest gadgets, was impeccably dressed and was such a caring man. I remember the latest cars, home theater systems, and him teaching me to dance of all things! Mostly, I remember the light he was during some of the darkest times in my life and those memories will stay with me forever because I continuously think of him. Thank you for sharing some of your life with me!
