In Loving Memory of Mahendra Ambalal Shah

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mahendra Ambalal Shah, who left this world peacefully on September 9, 2025, at the age of 83.

Mahendra was born on May 23, 1942, in Nadiad, Gujarat, India, the cherished youngest son of Ambalal Keshwerlal Shah and Maniben Ambalal Shah. From an early age, he embodied curiosity, ambition, and kindness. He pursued his studies at Commerce College at Sardar Patel University, and later continued in Mumbai to earn his Chartered Accounting certification. With courage and determination, he immigrated to the United States in 1969, where he went on to complete his MBA at Loyola University.

In 1971, Mahendra married his devoted and lifelong partner, Yogini, and together they built a beautiful life in the suburbs of Chicago, raising two children and eventually becoming the proud grandparents of four. Mahendra poured his energy and heart into his small business, MYSON, which he faithfully ran for nearly 25 years. Beyond his professional life, he gave generously of his time and spirit-dedicating his retirement to the non-profit Hand-In-Hand and Kriya Yoga, practicing daily meditation, and always extending a helping hand wherever it was needed.

Mahendra was a man of warmth, humor, and deep connection. His presence filled every room with joy, and his genuine interest in others meant he never left a gathering without making a new friend. He treasured every role he played in the lives of his family and friends-whether he was Dad, Dada, Kaka, Mama, Masa, Fua, Chinu, Uncle, or even affectionately "Mike," he carried each name with pride and love. He was a constant presence at family milestones, from school plays and sports games to musical performances and celebrations, always cheering the loudest and smiling the widest.

Above all, Mahendra was most proud of his family. He is the beloved husband of Yogini, devoted father of Shimul (Axel) Andersson and Neal (Rhonda) Shah, and adoring grandfather of Andrew, Alex, Lilly, and Hanna. He is also the dear brother of the late Gunvanti (late Poonamchand) Shah, late Liluben (late Natwarlal) Shah, late Vipin (Shoba) Shah, late Arvinda (late Vipin) Gandhi, and Lata (late Narendra) Choksi. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom adored him, as well as an extraordinary circle of friends who will forever miss his warmth, wisdom, and laughter.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a Hindu service at 12:00 p.m. at Dupage Cremations and Funeral Chapel, 951 W. Washington St., West Chicago, IL 60185. The cremation will take place privately with family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Mahendra's name to Kriya Vedanta Gurukulam – Temple of Harmony, 3400 Earl Dr., Joliet, IL 60431, an institution aligned with his spiritual devotion.

Mahendra lived a life rich in love, generosity, and purpose. Though his absence leaves an unfillable void, his spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched. His memory will be cherished, his lessons remembered, and his love carried forward by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
