PITTSTON - With a mischievous twinkle in his eye and a chuckle ever ready, few could resist the charm of the loving, funny, and talented Mahlon Herbert Thomas, 83, who left us on March 22, 2025. Born in Gardiner, Maine on July 16, 1941, Mahlon lived a life as colorful and multifaceted as the antique collections he so cherished.
He was a man who embraced life with gusto, lived it on his own terms, and never missed an opportunity to find joy in the everyday.
Mahlon's life was an adventure, and he had a knack for making every day feel like a new journey. After meeting Barbara at a dance in 1962, they were married in 1970, and together, they embarked on a life of shared passions and interests. They started a beautiful family, welcoming their first child in 1975 and their second in 1977.
Mahlon's talents were many, including refinishing furniture, woodworking, cabinet making, weaving baskets, chair caning, wallpapering and painting. But it was his knowledge of antiques that truly set him apart. He owned the Two & One Antique shop in Hallowell and the Riveredge Antiques Mall in Pittston and was recognized for having the largest Warner's Safe Kidney and Liver Cure Bottle Collections known wide and far and was featured in the The Bottle Collector Book. His love for antiques was infectious, and he and Barbara would often travel doing antique shows together. An avid outdoorsman, Mahlon was also an enthusiastic deer, bird, rabbit hunter, and fisherman. He was a proud member of the Biggest Bass of Maine Club, the Biggest Bucks of Maine Club, and the Kennebec Valley Beagle Club. He was also an avid card player and could often be found at flea markets and lawn sales, always on the hunt for the next great find. His sense of humor and love for life were infectious, bringing joy and laughter to everyone he met.
Mahlon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara; his devoted children, Hollie Morgan and husband Nic and Brock Thomas and partner Cameron Souther; his cherished grandson, Sean Abney; his beloved sister, Muriel Smith and husband Ted; and his adored aunt, Frances Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perle and Effie (Cross) Thomas; brothers, Richard, David, Raymond, and Walter Thomas; and his aunt, Annalee Littlefield, and uncle, Kenneth Cross.
We are comforted in knowing that Mahlon's adventurous spirit will live on in those who loved him and in the memories they shared.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Arnold Road in Pittston, Maine.
