Mai Que Nguyen, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on April 28, 1939, in Nam Dinh, Vietnam.
Mai Que lived a life of resilience, grace, and love. She faced adversity from a young age, losing her mother early in life and later having to uproot her home to move to South Vietnam when the country divided. Following the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, she and her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Davenport, Iowa, where she raised her seven children. Mai Que's strength carried her through even the most difficult times, including the tragic loss of her daughter Mai Anh to cancer. Mai Que will be remembered for her generosity and dedication to her family. She delighted in cooking delicious Vietnamese meals to feed her loved ones, and her home was always surrounded by the vibrant flowers she so lovingly grew. Known for her impeccable sense of style, Mai Que always turned heads with her glamorous attire and jewelry. This was the theme every time she attended Mass because she constantly reminded her children you had to look your best in front of God. She also had a playful side, enjoying WWF wrestling as a favorite pastime. Above all, Mai Que's greatest joy was her family, and she cherished her grandchildren deeply.
Mai Que is survived by her children: Lucia Strong (Dr. Dan), Dr. Hien Nguyen (Buffy), Hoa Nguyen (Dr. Emily), Dr. Vu Nguyen (Amy), Dr. Huy Nguyen (Nicole N.P), and Dr. Paul Nguyen (Julie); her grandchildren: Kenny, Lisa, Adam, Dr. Darren, Dr. Nikki, Keriea, Dr. Zach, Isaac, Maiah, Hung, Hart, Grace, Mason, Jacob, Jett, Aiden, Arianna; and her greatgrandchildren: Dylan, MaiLan, Anthony, Jayden, Eli, Henry, Harley, Maddie and Noah.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hung Anh Nguyen, and her beloved daughter, Mai Anh Nguyen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Pius X Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, Wisconsin, 54911. Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Margaret's Cemetery in Neenah, Wisconsin, at 1:00 p.m.
Mai Que's strength, kindness, and legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
