What a lovely human being Mallory was, her nature visible in her art. She left a beautiful visual legacy for the world. Thank you Mallory, I will miss you.

Over 25 years ago, I 'discovered' the sensitivity of Mallory Lake's hand in a gallery in San Francisco. Her pastel stopped me mid-step. The deep tones of blues and greens, hidden layers of lavender and accents of chartreuse perfectly captured my dreams and memory of Tuscany. This work continues to grace my walls and inspire my sense of place and mood. I never reached out to meet the artist but followed the growth of her sensitive body of work on-line... and tonight, am sad to read of her passing. It is with respect and appreciation that I celebrate her legacy. My condolences to all who knew the woman and artist. Dawn Hettrich

Such fond memories. I wasn't much until I met you. Totally unaware of life and nature until I met you. You were my educator, teaching me so much, about the natural world and life in general. we had so much fun, Even though our time together was relatively short, you made it one I'll never forget. Thank you so very much.

Ode to Mallory, for Bob
O Mallory, sylph of the flowers
How you graced us with your presence
Always steady and serene, you stood
amongst us quiet and sublime,
never edging to the fore yet always
There, with smiles, a gesture, a quizzical look.
Subtle beauty you were,
and with your eyes
created wonders with your powdery colors
for us to revel in, to remember,
and to never forget the love and beauty
you shared with all of us.
With love to Bob,

She taught me alll about flying. She convinced me we could soar and do we found our way to the top of fences and leaped into space wishing we were Robins... Mallory convinced me that we had the power to exceed the limits of a young child's growing legs and inquisitive mind. She introduced me to sea glass that we gathered at the shore, and we tucked it away like two pirates that came upon treasures. We loved the way the glass was midty and dreamy like clouds.. and we escaped to our secret place, to open our handkerchiefs and reveal the blues and the greens in the safety of the doghouse that we transformed into our castle. Mallory was magic. She led a shy and insecure child into a place where I could imagine and dream and be whoever I aspired to be. We cared for baby birds that fell from the nest, and we fought for their lives and we knew of their worth, even if the outcome saddened our hearts. When we were caring we were empowered. Perhaps it was Mallory who first turned on my heart and led me to discover my calling as a nurse. Mallory was and is my soul mate. Wherever heaven is she holds a piece of me. The years separated us in distance but never spirit. I hope she knows that she is one of the greatest gifts in my life. I am so sorry Bob for your loss. God bless
