Mallory "Mal" Marie Eddy, a spirited soul celebrated for her warmth and wit, left this world on May 18, 2025, the very day that marked her 35th birthday due to natural causes. Born on May 18, 1990, in Wichita, Kansas, she blossomed into a vibrant individual who embraced life with an unapologetic passion. Mal's journey through life was an inspiring tapestry of kindness, creativity, and dedication, skillfully woven through her love for family, friends, and the world around her.
A proud graduate of Newton Senior High School in 2008, Mal sought knowledge far and wide. Not only did she pursue her undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas, but she also obtained her Master’s Degree in 2024 from the same esteemed institution. Her adventurous spirit in high school took her to Portugal, where she became fluent in Portuguese, further reflecting her love for cultural exploration and understanding.
In her professional life, Mal dedicated herself to the well-being of others. As a Behavioral Specialist at Thrive in Bentonville, Arkansas, she worked tirelessly with autistic children, embodying both patience and empathy. Her journey as a behavioral researcher at Juniper Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas, showcased her relentless pursuit to enhance the lives of those around her; she was in the midst of crafting a publication that would surely reflect her commitment to scholarly advancement and advocacy for her field.
Characterized by her proudly weird and wonderfully snarky demeanor, Mal delighted in making those around her smile. She had the unique ability to gift joy through her humor, clever puns, and thoughtful surprises. A true friend to many and a loving sister, and cousin, she maintained deep bonds with her family, including her mother, Jeanne Jones and her father, Jay (Michaelle) Eddy, her sisters, Megan Eddy (Luke Wiggins), Mackenzi Jones, and Autumn Jones, and step-brothers, Wade (Desiree) Jones, Brandon Jones and Dustin (Jessica) Thompson. Mal's cousin crew—Mandy Griffin, Alix Helms, Chris Helms, Rachel (Beau) Duncan, and Katie (Nico) Romero—loved her dearly, as did her cherished uncles, John Helms and Michael (Laura) Eddy and honorary sister Kayla Justice. Even her furry companions, Stanley, Wally, and Milo, will feel the absence of her gentle spirit.
Mal's interests were as eclectic as her personality; she loved to read and indulge in her artistic talents through drawing and doodling. Puzzle books offered both challenge and delight, while her admiration for KU basketball unveiled a passionate spirit that roared with team spirit. Her evenings were often spent immersed in delightful escapism, quoting Will Ferrell movies and enjoying the whimsical joys of Parks & Recreation. Not to mention her endearing fondness for Disney classics like Mulan—all of which painted a portrait of a woman who enjoyed life fully and found adventure in the little things.
Her legacy will be honored during a Visitation on May 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life on May 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, both held at Parker-Price & Davidson in Topeka, Kansas, a community space she certainly would have cherished. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
Mal leaves behind a heartbroken family and a treasure trove of memories for those who knew and loved her. Preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandparents, Rita and Olin Remmert, her paternal grandparents, Mary and Jim Eddy, and her Aunt, Julie Helms, Mallory's vibrant light sets a poignant reminder of life's fragility and beauty. She will be missed deeply, yet celebrated fervently, forever held in the hearts of those fortunate enough to call her a loved one.
