Mamie Ruth Spears was born on December 31, 1926 in Florence, SC to Benjamin and Minnie McElveen Williams. She peacefully departed this life on September 29, 2024 at home.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Olive Grove Baptist Church in Coward, SC where she worshipped in a close community of family and friends.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Kenneth Spears on September 26, 1943. On September 26, 2024 they celebrated 81 years of marriage.
After marriage, Mamie joined her husband and became a member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church. There she served, at various times, as a Sunday School teacher, an usher, a choir member, member of the missionary and as a deaconess. She was also a member of Goodwill Chapter 107 Order of Eastern Star.
She was an avid Bible reader and enjoyed imparting scripture to her children and grandchildren. Her mantra, known to children and grandchildren was, “What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
Mamie enjoyed fishing for the thrill of the catch and for the tranquility of the creek. She and her fishing buddies often came home laughing about who fell off the log into the water while crossing to the far bank.
She was known for being an amazing cook and imparted her skills to nieces, nephews, new brides, grandchildren or whomever wanted to learn. “A pinch of this, some of that, not too much”! And it was done.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Benjamin Williams; her sisters Irene Wilson, Inez Wilson, Elloree Carter, Earldean Pickens, Annie Mae Williams, and Elizabeth Quick. Her brothers; Larue Williams, Fleming Williams, Raymond Williams, Aaron Williams, Lonnie Williams and Edward Williams. Grandson Reverend Michael K. Spears, great granddaughter Britany Spears. Daughters-in-law Margie Spears, and Mary Alice Spears.
Left to mourn her precious memories are her devoted husband, Kenneth Spears, Sr. six children: Lishie Mae Nowlin, Kenneth (Yvonne) Spears, Jr., Odell (Joan) Spears, Benjamin Spears, Jocerlyn (Boice) Hardy, Anthony (Mary) Spears, Sr., recognized as a son, Nathaniel (Ann) Robinson; three sisters-in-law Rose (Rufus) Sneed, Missouri Kennedy and Loretta Williams; 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends daily at the home from 3 PM - 6 PM.
