Manuel Zavala Hernandez, 80 of Portland, TX, passed on June 25, 2025. He was born in Gregory, Texas, on September 12, 1944, to Miguel and Manuela Hernandez.
He married Juanita Garcia on May 16, 1969, and they were married until the day that he died.
Manuel worked as a craftsman for Merrell Lease Service and Briley Welding Inc. for many years. He retired at the age of 62.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory, Texas.
Our Dad had a passion for fishing with his boys; he also enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and listening to the Gregory-Portland Wildcats play ball on the radio.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Manuela, his brothers Victor, Miguel Jr, Jose, and his sister Alicia Lara, his granddaughter Brianna, and his great-granddaughter Serenity.
He was survived by his loving wife of 56 years Juanita, his children Manuel Jr.(Jennifer Savoie), Melissa(Dale Johnson), Patricia(Gilbert Trevino), Daniel (Ivy Salinas), Leticia(David Montalvo), Lisa Ann (Steve Perales), Jamie(Briana Juarez), Ramon(Monica), and Rafael(Olivia).
His grandchildren, Sydney, Manuel, Horace, Hayley, Holton, Marissa, Gilbert , Katelynn, Shayla, Richard, Jordan, Daniel, Ian, Dylan, Christian, Randy(Montalvo), Rheanna, Deanna, JoeDavid, Lelyanna, Aubryanna, Alyssa, Mariah, Leesa Marie, Nacho, Lia, Araceli, Darryn, Josiah, Jamie, Randy(Hernandez), Benjamin, Michael, Kassandra, Rafael, and Annalisa; his great-grandchildren, Lillie, Joseph, Alexander, Maverick, Jayden, Jasiah, Jianna, Ezra, Derek, Delaney, Sophia, Steven, Sarah, Adalina, Amara, Darryn, Leila, Alaia, Santiaga; brother David; Sisters, Concepcion(Jessie)Ortiz, Norma(Emiliano)Martinez, Juanita Delgado, Christina Garcia, Anita(Eddie)Cavazos, Adelaida Garcia(Mario).
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory. Interment to follow at Gregory Cemetery.
