William Dunlavy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Resthaven Funeral Home - Aransas Pass on Feb. 16, 2026.
Portland - William "Bill" Ray Dunlavy, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories built on love, service, and the great outdoors.

Born on April 22, 1933, in Wichita, Kansas, to Evelyn (Lashbaugh) and Kenneth Dunlavy, Bill grew up with the strong values of hard work and dedication that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment into his civilian life. Bill later worked for over 30 years with the City of Tulsa, where he built not just a career, but lasting friendships before retiring.

Bill felt most at home under an open sky. Whether he was hunting at daybreak, casting a fishing line into quiet waters, camping beneath the stars, or practicing his aim at the range, he simply loved being outdoors. Nature was his happy place.

Above all else, Bill cherished his family-especially his beloved wife, Janet. Married for 56 years, the two shared a beautiful life together. After retirement, they traveled throughout the Midwest, enjoying the freedom of the open road and the joy of simply being side by side. Janet was truly the love of his life, and their bond was an example of enduring devotion.

Bill was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Dunlavy; and his parents, Kenneth and Evelyn Dunlavy.

He leaves behind those who will carry his memory forward: his loving wife, Janet Dunlavy of Portland, Texas; his son, Danny Maddox (Carol) of Aransas Pass, Texas; his daughter, Teresa Holland (Leroy) of Oklahoma; grandchildren Brandon Maddox, Stephanie Edler, Brittany Turner, Kathryn Johnson, Aaron Maddox, and David Holland; and 12 great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of his life and legacy.

A Memorial Service celebrating Bill's life will be held on February 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Aransas Pass; 627 S Houston, Aransas Pass, TX. The service will be officiated by Ian Caceres, Pastor of First Baptist Church Aransas Pass.
