Manuel Alexander Soares, Jr, 81, of Hilo died Dec. 21, 2025 at his home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired cement truck driver for Yamada & Sons and also worked for Shield Pacific, Inc, Charlie Ishi Construction, Dawson Lumber, Kulana Foods Slaughterhouse, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Hawaii Army National Guard. Visitation from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday (January 30, 2026) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo; memorial mass at 9:30. Casual attire. Survived by children, Laurie Lynn Soares of Maui, Christine Ferreira of Maui, Clayton Soares of Maui; step-sons, David Oliveira of Papaikou, Antone Oliveira of Papaikou; brother, Ernest (Paulette) Soares of Hilo; sisters, Margaret (Lorrin) Araujo of Hilo, Jane (Louis, Jr.) Araujo of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
