Dr. Manuel Tascon Alonso

Dr.Manuel Tascon Alonso February 3,1932 - October 6,2017 Dr. Tascon started his medical career in Spain, where he was born. His main interest was in cardiac medicine and research. This took him to England and then to Canada. While in Canada he completed a medical residency at the University of Alberta Hospital. His next step was to start a PhD in Minneappolis, Minnesota. His career then took him to Berkley California as Medical Director at Hancock Laboratories, which specialized in heart valve research. This resulted in him establishing his own laboratory in 1980. The "Tascon Medical Technology Corporation" focused on the research and development of advanced cardiovascular implants. His company was staffed by personnel with extensive experience in the design, testing and development of life supporting cardio implant devices. Dr Tascon was responsible for designing and patenting several valves that are still being used globally in cardiac care today. Throughout his life, Dr Tascon always had an inquisitive mind, folllowing all the advances in medicine leading to the development of life saving technology. Dr Tascon passed away in his sleep after a six month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Kitsco from Edmonton, Alberta), his son, Robert, both living in California and his sister Gloria, living in Spain.
