Manuela "Meme" Barquera, 75, of Winters, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 15, 1950, in Westhoff, Texas, to Emilio and Guadalupe Torres.
Meme was a beautiful soul whose kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who found her greatest joy in caring for others. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her delicious cooking - a true reflection of her generous spirit.
She loved playing bingo, visiting garage sales, and spending time with friends and family. Meme also enjoyed watching country western shows, novelas, and TikTok videos that made her laugh and smile. She lived her life with a gentle heart, finding happiness in the simple things and sharing that joy with those around her.
Meme is survived by her daughter, Francis Farias of Arlington; her son, Fidencio Barquera Jr. of Winters; her brother, Jacinto Torres of Winters; and her sister, Jacinta and husband David Maldonado of Dickinson. She was the proud grandmother of Mercedes, Alexis, Isaac, Elias, Kaleb, Marquis, and great-grand dog Bruno, who were her greatest blessings. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Guadalupe Torres, her sister, Odilia Escamia, and her brother, Emilio Torres Jr.
Meme will be remembered always for her love, her laughter, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Winters Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at Mount Carmel Catholic Church with burial following at Lakeview Cemetery.
