Manuela "Nellie" Lopez

Manuela “Nellie” Lopez left this world to begin her eternal life in Heaven on Sunday, November 19 th, 2023 with her loving family by her side. In 2008 she retired after 18 years of dedicated service with Socorro Independent School District. Nellie was also a lifelong member of St's Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was devoted to her husband, Apolonio B. Lopez Jr., until her very last day. Her passions were cooking for her family, friends, spending time with her grandchildren and going to church. She touched the lives of so many with her humor, kindness and beautiful spirit. Her family wishes to express our extreme gratitude to Yvette “Weddie” Rodriguez for the wonderful care, love, and support that she gave to Nana. We would also like to thank Kelsie and Laura from Gentiva Hospice for their devotion and compassionate care.  

Manuela is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Apolonio Lopez Jr.; parents, Genaro Gonzalez and Maria Jesus Tarango. Brother, Jessie Gonzalez and sisters, Alicia Gonzalez and Terry Tovar. Manuela is survived by her loving daughter, Leticia Lopez and daughter-in-law, Yvette Rodriguez. Her grandchildren, Samantha Garcia, Brichelle Lopez, Nathan Lopez, Robert Melendez and Tatum Faith Luther who will honor and cherish her memory. She is also leaving behind her brothers, Armando Gonzalez, Roman Gonzalez, Joe Gonzalez, Carlos Gonzalez and Danny Gonzalez. Sisters, Lorry Rodriguez, Elvira Rivera, Herminia Muniz, Chila Miranda, Sylvia Silva, Lydia Macias, Rachel Gonzalez and Becky Gonzalez.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary starting 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home- Americas, 9521 North Loop Dr., El Paso, Texas 79907. A Mass will begin at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at St's Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 673 Old Hueco Tanks Rd, El Paso, Texas 79927. A Graveside will follow at 1:00 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas 79907. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home- Americas.
