William "Mapp" Cullen, 58, of Mappsburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born October 4, 1966 in Nassawadox, VA, he was the son of Mary Thom W. Cullen of Mappsburg and the late Winter C. Cullen III.
Mapp attended Hargrave Military Academy in middle school, where he earned the leadership medal and played on the basketball team. He later returned home to the Shore and graduated from Nandua High School, class of 1986. Mapp was a member of Painter Garrison's Methodist Church, where he and his family faithfully worshiped throughout his life.
As a third-generation farmer, working the land was in his blood and he was proud to continue the Cullen family legacy through his work with Floyd Farms. Mapp loved planting and producing crops, especially corn and turnip greens. Known for his skill with heavy equipment, he had a special gift for grading land with remarkable precision, a skill he took great pride in.
Mapp was your typical Eastern Shore boy, who from a young age spent countless hours on the water, hunting, fishing, and clamming. He had a natural way with animals, particularly horses and dogs, and he never missed a chance to share a laugh with friends and strangers alike. Mapp's greatest joy, however, was sharing his passion for boating, horses, and perhaps a little '80s music with his daughters, making memories that will stand the test of time.
In addition to his mother, Mapp is survived by his daughters, Gina Ames and her husband, Tyler, of Melfa, VA and Dana Sexauer and her husband, Matthew, of Lynchburg, VA; brother, W. Calvert Cullen IV and his wife, Mary Jane, of Cape Charles, VA; sister, Kathy Cullen Henley of Painter, VA; grandchildren, Summer, Carsyn, and Tyler Jr. "T.J.," Ames and Mattison and Claire Sexauer; aunt, Marion Windsor; nieces and nephew, Lacy Henley, Savannah Cullen-Bogart (Nick), Kristen Cullen, and Dr. Winter C. Cullen V (Kendall); cousins, Hal Floyd (Cindy), Betty Spencer (Eddie), Sheila England (Jeff), Robert Windsor, Tommy Windsor (Sallye), and David Windsor; and last but not least, his beloved dog, Jack.
A memorial service will be held at Painter Garrison's Methodist Church on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Charlene Harris officiating.
