Maralyn Schmitt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial on Mar. 4, 2026.
Maralyn Bialy Schmitt (September 4, 1944-March 1, 2026)

Maralyn Bialy Schmitt passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was predeceased by her former husband of 35 years, Edward J. Schmitt. She was born in Hartford but moved as a young girl to her beloved Newington where she attended school and lived most of her life. She attended Newington High School and matriculated to the Beth Israel Hospital Training School for Nurses in Boston. She was a Registered Nurse at Hartford Hospital for nearly fifty years of dedicated service, occasionally traveling from Newington by snowmobile when the roads were impassable.

Maralyn was exceptionally family oriented and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was the mother of Cara Beneski (Timothy) of West Suffield, and Jennifer Pratte (Marc) of Newington. She went from no grandchildren to eight in the span of six years: Justin Pratte (Jena), Chancey Beneski (Ashley), McKayla Loeschner (Tyler), Brenna Pratte, Jake Beneski, Seamus Beneski, Cole Pratte, and Eamon Beneski. She also had one great granddaughter, Grace Pratte. Additionally, she leaves behind three sisters, Rosalie Dezi (Dennis), Michele Sadlosky (John), and Christina Giannini (Gerald), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Intelligent, witty, and loving, Maralyn was resilient and a great friend to many. Her life was based on service, and she lived that commitment daily, Also, a former Whalers season ticket holder, Maralyn was an avid sports fan, enjoying the UConn men's and women's basketball teams as well as the Red Sox, whose home runs she could hear from her residence while in nursing school.
