Sandra Hedstrom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial on Mar. 15, 2026.
Sandra G. Hedstrom, 81, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Bruce W. Hedstrom, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, love and devotion.

Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Ingaborg) Anderson. Sandra was a longtime resident of Newington and was previously an active member of the Church of Christ, Congregational, Newington and First Church in Wethersfield, where she faithfully taught Sunday school and watched over the little ones in the nursery for many years.

Sandra found great joy in time spent with family, especially during summers at the family's beloved second home at Point O' Woods in Old Lyme, where many cherished memories were made. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club and the Twin Mothers Club, and she devoted much of her life to caring for and supporting those she loved most. Known for her great sense of humor, she loved making people smile and brought laughter wherever she went. Above all, Sandra was devoted to her family and was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, whom she adored and cared for with great love.

In addition to her husband Bruce, she leaves her four sons: Brian Hedstrom and his wife Letitia of Newington, Gregg Hedstrom and his wife Shannon of Massachusetts, Kevin Hedstrom and his wife Christine of Newington, and Kyle Hedstrom and his wife Leanne of Wethersfield. She also leaves her nine cherished grandchildren, Maggie, Luca, Jack, Carly, Will, Niklas, Kayla, Chloe, and Kevin, Jr. She also leaves her cousin, Barbara Goff and her husband Roy of East Hampton, and her cousins-in-law, Kay Peterson of Manchester, formerly of Bolton, and Nancy Cramer of Old Lyme, and numerous extended family and close friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Cynthia Anderson and her cousins, Robert Peterson and Robert Cramer.

Sandra will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to family, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her family extends their gratitude to the staff and friends at Bel-Air Manor Newington for the love and care shown to Sandra these last few years.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 21st from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. A service will be held following the visitation. Burial will be private in West Meadow Cemetery.
