Maravell Alice Gonsioroski, 83, passed peacefully with her family by her side, on March 22, 2024. Maravell was born on November 4, 1940, in Yakima, Washington, to Walter and Bertha Evers.
She was their second child after many unfortunate attempts to add to their family. She was born very small, premature, weighing only 5 pounds. Her father told her mother, "It would be a marvel if she lives" This was how she got her name.
What a "marvel" indeed!
Maravell grew up in the Moxee area and graduated from Moxee High School, as valedictorian in 1958.
Prior to her graduation, she was encouraged by her mother to write this strapping young man who had enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Japan. As luck would have it, he returned stateside and was stationed in Bremerton, Washington. They fell in love, and on September 27, 1958, she married Frank Gonsioroski Jr., whom she had been married to for the past 65 ½ years.
They started their married life in Bremerton, Washington, and soon would be transferred to Long Beach, California. After two years away from her hometown, they would return as a family of three. Over the next several years they would homestead and add two more children to their family.
She started her career in banking in 1968 and would work there for the next 19 ½ years, returning to the Moxee branch of Rainier Bank as manager. In 1990, she began a new career working in the treasurer's office of the Yakima County Court House, until her retirement in 2002.
She never knew a stranger. She would talk to anyone and carry on a conversation. Chances are, you would end up knowing the same people or just simply be fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. She loved telling the story of her grandson asking her, "Grandma, do you know everyone?"
You could always count on her to volunteer for any and all organizations, some of them being Girl Scouts, 4H, and anything horse related. She received many rewards and recognition for her years of participation. She was also a very active member of her community and held a seat on the Moxee City Council for several years.
She enjoyed a good game of bingo, large bowl of ice cream, sewing, gardening, yard saling, but most of all, time spent with her family and friends.
Maravell was known for being a mother to all. Her house was always open and filled with love. When asked how many children she had she'd always answer "three, but I have a lot of 'adopted' kids". She will be dearly missed by so many.
Maravell is survived by her husband Frank Gonsioroski Jr., her children, Rick (Karen) Gonsioroski, Suzanne (Vince) Romano, and Tami (TJ) Flory, grandchildren, Jessica (Phil) Bentz, Colby Flory, Stephanie Romano, Valerie Romano, Kyley (CJ) Erickson, five great-grandchildren, and all those she considered her "adopted kids". She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bertha Evers, brother, John Evers, and close friend, Inez Walters.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 1:30-6:00pm, and Funeral Service will be held at 4:00pm, at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W. Prospect, Moxee, WA, 98936).
