Marc Wayne Winchell of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Ascension – St. Mary’s Hospital. He was 74 years old. Marc Wayne Winchell was born on December 12, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Wayne S. and Violet L. (Scoles) Winchell. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Hemlock High School. Marc served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he met and married the love of his life, Gail Marie Sumera, on May 12, 1972; she preceded him in death on February 15, 2020. He was employed as an assembly line worker/forklift operator with General Motors Steering Gear/Delphi, retiring in 2006, with over 35 years of loyal and dedicated service with the company. The role he loved above all others was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Marc was a family man at heart and an avid outdoorsman. Whether it was working out in his garden, doing yard work, camping, or fishing, these were hobbies that made his soul smile. Marc was the best grandfather ever! He attended all his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, always on the sidelines or in the crowd smiling. Marc loved all animals, but his cat, Sassy, held a special place in his heart. He will forever be remembered for being a kind and selfless man, for always supporting family and friends, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are two daughters and their spouses: Amanda and Brian Montini of Freeland; Lisa and Matt Clark of St. Johns; four grandchildren: Tobin Clark, Noah Montini, Riley Clark, and Zoie Montini; two brothers, two sisters and their spouses: Ross and Kim Winchell; Brian Winchell; Cathlene and Terry Daley; and Christene and Leon LaRue; his favorite auntie, Ann Craft; and his beloved cat Sassy. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends too numerous to list, but held closely to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Cecile and Walter Sumera.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 4th Floor Staff at Ascension – St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Francis Home for all the love and care they provided to Marc and the family.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Burial will follow at Fremont Township Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Lung Cancer Association. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home or through www.casefuneralhome.com.
