Thomas Bayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory - Radford on Jan. 27, 2026.
Thomas E. Bayes, 89, passed away with family at his bedside at his home in Hiwassee on Sunday, January 25, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie and his parents Earl Franklin Bayes and Glennie Gruber Bayes, sisters Ruth Freeman and Shirley Fishaber.

He was born in Alma Michigan on January 9. 1937. He married Bonnie Jean Mayle in St. Louis, Michigan in 1955 and they were together for 68 years until she passed away. Tom worked hard as a foreman at GM in Saginaw, Michigan while also farming with his dad. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. He loved being outside. In his younger years he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. In the past few years, you would find him on his John Deere lawn mower doing whatever he could outside. He never met a stranger – as they were immediately friends.

Survivors include his son, Tom Bayes; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Paul Marcotte; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and his best friends, Mollie and Buddy, and numerous other family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Medi Hospice for their exceptional care. A special shout out to Jacqui, Bailey, Heather, Danny and Robbie. He loved each of you so much. Also, to his friend Hope for brightening his world once a week.

Per his request, no services will be held at this time.

The Bayes Family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford. www.mullinsfuneralhome.com
