Marcel Bonheur, 87, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by his two daughters, Gilda Perez and Jessie Bonheur Smith. Born on March 28, 1938, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Marcel was the son of the late Joseph Xavier Bonheur and Rosemise Jules. He completed his primary studies at Lycée Alexandre Pétion and his secondary studies at Lycée Toussaint Louverture. Marcel began his career as a photographer at Star Photo. In December 1970, Marcel met the love of his life, Gladys Pierrot. After a brief courtship, they were married on December 26, 1970, and shared 52 years of marriage. Together they lived in New York before settling in Jersey City, New Jersey, where they raised their family and built a life for 3o years. Marcel worked as a chef at Greenville Hospital, was employed at Caldor, and later became a school bus driver with Hudson County Transport, eventually retiring. Upon retirement, Marcel and Gladys relocated to Clermont, Florida, where they enjoyed time with their grandchildren and the slower pace of life. His beloved Gladys passed away in 2023, but Marcel continued to remain devoted to his family and daily responsibilities. Marcel tried to make the best of his new normal by devoting extra time and attention to his pet dog, Dagger. A man of great discipline and quiet strength, Marcel was known for his hard work, humility, and deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a dedicated grandfather, and a caring friend. He succeeded in establishing the American dream, providing a strong foundation for his children and grandchildren. Marcel spoke five languages - French, Creole, Spanish, Latin, and English - and was admired for his sharp mind, particularly his gift with numbers. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed watching soccer, listening to classical music, and had a lifelong passion for cars. He especially cherished earing for his dog, Dagger, who was his loyal companion. Marcel's faith guided him throughout his life; he served as an altar boy, sang in the church choir, and remained deeply committed to his spiritual walk. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Gladys Bonheur, and his son Marcel Bonheur Jr. Marcel is survived by his daughters, Gilda Perez and Jessie Bonheur Smith; his grandsons, Marquis Dante Mann and Devante James Mann; his siblings, Adeline Civil, Wesner Jean Claude Celestin, Joseph Jules, Camille Bonheur, and Carel Bonheur; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Those who knew Marcel will remember him as a quiet, respectful, and reserved man whose presence was steady and whose love was unwavering. His legacy of faith, perseverance, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
