Marcel Gumbs was born on February 3, 1972, in Lafayette, LA, to the late John U. Gumbs and the late Betty Jane Alfred Gumbs. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 2:20 PM at Ochsner University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Marcel had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Marcel will truly be missed by those he touched with his humble spirit and kindness.

Marcel was a hard worker and took pride in his work. He was the head custodian at Our Lady of Fatima School for 30 years. He also did lawn service on the side, which he enjoyed doing.

Marcel leaves behind precious memories with his wife of 30 years, Bridget Bernard Gumbs, and his sons La'Marcus John Bernard and Braylon Chester Bernard, both of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by his sisters Charlotte A.

Gumbs (Mark Malveaux) and Rhonda Gumbs (Milton Boudreaux), both of Ridge, LA. He is also survived by nieces Jupria Gumbs and Mieltionna Boudreaux, nephews Markell Malveaux and John Gumbs, Jr., and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and coworkers.

Marcel was preceded in death by both parents, John U. Gumbs and Betty J. Gumbs; one sister, Rosalyn M. Gumbs; one brother, John J. Gumbs; fathers-in-law, JosC. Bernard and Joseph E. Kennedy; his maternal grandparents, Joseph Dorsey Alfred and Loriana Fiest Alfred; paternal grandparents, Clarence Gumbs and Geneva S. Gumbs; uncles Jeffery, Nelson, Joseph, and Gerald Alfred; Johnny Francis, Roy Brown, and Paul Gumbs; and aunts Thelma Francis, Mildred McZeal, and Barbara Francis.
