Gloster, Miss.
Jo Campbell, 79, went home to the Lord, Sept. 22, 2007, at the home of her daughter. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Brown’s Funeral Home in Gloster, Miss. Services will be Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with graveside services at 2 p.m. in Columbia Cemetery in Columbia, Miss.
Jo Means was born December 27, 1927 in Springfield, Mo. to Frank and Olive Means. When she was a young girl, she moved with her family to Columbus, Miss. After high school, Mrs. Campbell attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a teacher in the Mississippi Public School System for over 40 years .
An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Campbell began playing piano and organ in church when she was 14. Throughout her life she was privileged to play in numerous churches, as well as for weddings and funerals.
In 1999, Mrs. Campbell moved to Amite County with her husband, Ed. Prior to this move, they resided in Gulfport, Miss. where they were active members of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Campbell was a current member of Berwick Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Means of Memphis, Tenn.; her sister, Goldie Geoghegan of Fayette, Miss.; and her beloved husband of 55 years, Ed.
Survivors include three children and spouses, James and Mary Jo Carson of Gloster, Miss., William and Barbara Campbell of Clinton, Miss., and Allen and Suzanne Shelton of Decatur; adopted daughter, Nancy Freeman of Long Beach, Miss.; six grandchildren, Ed and Rama Carson of Abilene, Texas, Lee and Jennifer Carson of Starkville, Miss., and Katherine Campbell and Luke Campbell of Clinton, Miss.; and three great-grandchildren, Laura Carson and Garrett Carson of Starkville, and Tara Carson of Abilene, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village or the Mississippi Baptist Association.
