Marcella Sydney Chappell

Marcella Sydney Chappell was born on February 18, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the fourth child of John and Marylee Chappell. The Chappell Family settled in Florence Estates, Winslow Township, New Jersey when Marcella was about 10 years old. She attended Tansboro Elementary School and graduated from Edgewood Regional High School (now Winslow Township High School) in Atco, New Jersey in 1967.

After graduating from high school, Marcella worked a variety of jobs before settling into a career in health care. Marcella worked at a number of local skilled nursing facilities before joining the staff of the former Camden County Health Services long term care facility at Lakeland. She provided hands-on care to elderly patients and patients with chronic debilitating neurological conditions. After over twenty years of service with Camden County, Marcella retired in 2011.

Marcella was the mother of two: Tauhid Chappell (Chrissy) and Tanisha Khan (Gul). Marcella loved her children dearly. She often worked two jobs and lots of overtime to provide for them. Marcella adored her six grandchildren: Tauhid Chappell, Jr., Kyrie Chappell, Halimah, Kysim, Jalal and Raheema Khan.

Marcella enjoyed watching TV, listening to music and going out to breakfast and lunch. She was highly skilled in completing intricate, complex puzzles with up to 1000 pieces. Marcella was a great support to her parents during their senior years. Her siblings are grateful for her presence as their parents faced the challenges of aging. Marcella's parents, sister Francine Chappell, nephew Rashid Chappell, and sister-in-law Joyce Holt Chappell, preceded her in death. Marcella is survived by her son Tauhid Chappell, daughter Tanisha Khan, and her six grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are William Chappell, Donald Chappell (Merlita), Robert Chappell (Jacqueline), Shirley Chappell, Carol Chappell and Ceal Chappell. Surviving nieces and nephews are: Deborah Johnson, Theodore Chappell, Na'Imah Chappell, Adrian Chappell, Krystle Chappell, Siegret Chappell, Reyna Wiles, and many grand nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 11:00AM at the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, 231 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ.
