John Mahon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Costantino-Primo Funeral Home on Feb. 23, 2026.
John Francis Mahon, 94, of Ocala, FL, and Cape May, NJ, and previously Voorhees, NJ for 51 years, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 27, 1931, in Camden, NJ, John was a proud graduate of Camden Catholic High School, Class of 1949. He was the beloved brother of James Mahon and the late Eileen Griffiths.

John served his country with honor in the United States Navy, both active duty and reserve, from 1952 to 1960. After his military service, he began a long and respected career in transportation and labor representation. John proudly drove for St. Johnsbury for 25 years, and he dedicated two decades as a Shop Steward, advocating for and supporting his fellow workers. He went on to serve with distinction as a Business Agent for Teamsters Union, Local 676, where he was admired for his integrity, tireless work ethic, and famously quick wit.

For 68 years, John was the devoted husband of his "beautiful bride," Mary Bernadette (McKernan). Together, they built a large and loving family. John was the cherished father of Maryellen White (Joseph), Maureen Bush (Robert), Colin Mahon (Priscilla), Michael Mahon (Constance), Barry Mahon, Kathleen Browne (Chan) and Matthew Mahon (Brenna).

He was predeceased by his sons John P. Mahon, Martin A. Mahon, and his grandson Anthony Inzillo.

John was a proud and joyful grandfather to Sherry, Jessica, John, Daniel, Michelle, Meghan, Melanie, Barry, Brett, Adam, Maxine, Sean, Ian, Erin, Taylor, Andrew, Thomas, Eric, Jaimie, Lowen, and Aelyn, and a great grandfather many times over. His love and guidance shaped generations.

He shared a lifelong friendship with Dan and Karen Testa, and leaves behind a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Although never one to seek the spotlight, John lived a life worthy of honor-one defined by principle, kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was a dedicated Catholic who lived his Faith. He found peace in the places that spoke to his soul: working the rugged land of the North Country, feeling the breeze through the kitchen window in Cape May, or sailing aboard the North Wind. His adventurous spirit and curiosity became treasured gifts he passed on to his children.

John is survived by his wife Mary, his brother James, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Saturday February 28, 2026 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at St. Simon Stock Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00AM. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin NJ. Arrangements under the direction of the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, BERLIN NJ.
